The wicket is guarded by a batsman who, with his bat, attempts to prevent the ball from hitting the wicket. The origin of the word is from the standard definition of wicket as a small gate. Historically, cricket wickets had only two stumps and one bail and looked like a gate. The third (middle) stump was introduced in 1775. The size and shape of the wicket has changed several times during the last 300 years and its dimensions and placing is now determined by Law 8 in the Laws of Cricket, thus:

Q. 1.M.S. Dhoni 2.Kumar Sangakkara 3.Adam Gilchrist With most dismissals? With most catches? With most runs? Which wicket keeper do you think is the best so far? Asked by Furioso Lion88 - Sun Feb 24 02:00:42 2008 - - 10 Answers - 0 Comments A. All 3 keepers i think have done a good job behind the stumps. I think Sangakarra has the most runs and has looked a class act so i would put him number 1. MS Dhoni has chiped in nearly every match so i would put him Number 2. And Gilly( we love and we miss Gilly) he has got a 100, but besides that he has looked a bit rusty. Q. Do you think that Haddin will be wicket keeper for Australia for T20s or will they bring someone else in? Asked by Grame M - Mon Jan 5 17:05:00 2009 - - 10 Answers - 0 Comments A. Haddin is a good keeper and has kept well in the test series as well. But Luke Ronchi may be given the chance to play in the T20s most probably. Because, he has been in a better form in the shorter formats than Haddin, and Luke is somewhat a T20 player, so I guess he'll be keeping for the Aussies. Luke has played quite a few T20s and ODIs for Australia, so he may have no problem in playing though. His keeping is not a problem at all, but what really matters is how he performs with the bat in the middle order as well. Australia will surely need him to score a few valuable runs in the middle order too. Answered by Kate J - Mon Jan 5 23:08:31 2009 From Yahoo Answer Search: "wicket" |
