Q. i want to use it for church purpose, anybody wants to search for churches, youth activities in the area, concerts coming up, and at the same time advertise. Dont have any knowledge of web design or any related software. Just idea .

A. You want to make something... not copy php-nuke or other 'crap'? one of my pet themes is making something out of nothing. I've done 1) slide shows of pictures without having a list of the pictures! by reading directories. 2) creating links where there were none, based on the availability of resources in a directory. simple text->webpage (with links) and others, all with ajax and a little perl. What can you do that the next guy can't?

A. A portal is generally a vehicle by which to gain access to a multitude of 'services'. A web site is a destination in itself. As such the term website refers to a location on the internet that is unique and can be accessed through a URL . By that definition a web portal is in fact also a website. However there is a distinction between the two terms based on the subject and content of the website. A website is also a web portal if; It transmits information from several independent sources that can be, but not necessarily are, connected in subject; thus offering a public service function for the visitor which is not restricted to presenting the view(s) of one author.

How would i create a Web Portal for ppl who signon to my Wi Fi Signal?

I have a wifi connection in my house, problem is I have every hotspot junkie sitting outside across the street at the autozone using my connection. now I know I could just make it a secured connection no big deal but when I went to Mcdonalds the other day and used their wifi inspiraiton hit. I want them to access a webpage that I set up and cannot go anywhere else unless they pay me $2.oo an hour how would I do it? Im familiar with HTMl and PHP just the mechanics of not letting them navigate is what is getting me.

A. Unless you have a business license, this would not be a good idea. Basically, you make all port 80 requests redirect to a page you create, unless a verified session has been created (via cookie, or php session variables). However, if your network is not secured in the first place, good luck keeping it up.
