Washington (pronounced /ˈwɒʃɪŋtən/ ( listen)) is a state in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. Washington was carved out of the western part of Washington Territory which had been ceded by Britain in 1846 by the Oregon Treaty as settlement of the Oregon Boundary Dispute. It was admitted to the Union as the forty-second state in 1889. The United States Census Bureau estimated the state's population was 6,549,224 as of 2008.

Nearly sixty percent of Washington's residents live in the Seattle metropolitan area, the center of transportation, business, and industry, and home to an internationally known arts community. The remainder of the state consists of deep rain forests in the west, mountain ranges in the center, northeast and far southeast, and eastern semi-deserts given over to intensive agriculture.

Washington was named after George Washington, the first President of the United States, and is the only U.S. state named after a president. Washington is often called Washington state or the State of Washington to distinguish it from the District of Columbia. However, Washingtonians (and many residents of neighboring states) normally refer to the state simply as "Washington" while usually referring to the nation's capital as "Washington D.C." or simply "D.C."

What are the advantages and disadvantages of living in the Washington, DC?
Q. I am interested in relocating to Washington, DC in the future. If I choose to relocate, I will move there after the year 2010. I might have to live on my own and with no family and/or friends around and not being married. If I choose to relocate to Washington, DC, what are the advantages and disadvantages for a single individual to reside in the nations capital and the changers of the surrounding that I will be residing in?

A. Advantages: *A lot to do! Especially if you are interested in history. The Smithsonian museum are free! *DC gets a lot of great bands - so its a great place for music! The club scene is good too! *Easy to get around - Although it can be slow The DC metro (subway) is easy to use and they are often open late on weekends! *Good Sports Teams - Redskins, Capitals, Nationals, DC United, Wizards... Disadvantages: *Its expensive. Expect to pay at least $1000 per month on rent if you want to live alone. It will probably be a lot higher by 2010! *Traffic sucks. At the rate new developments are going in, I doubt this will be solved by the time you get here. My advice. Visit DC for the weekend or a week and see how you like it.

What Golf Country Club in the Bellevue Washington Area is affordable for a family?
Q. We are a family of (4) considering relocating to the Bellevue, Kirkland, are of Washington. We love to golf and belong to an affordable golf club in the twin cities. Is there something affordable out in the Seattle area that would offer housing close by, or possibly on the golf course?

A. No. If you are looking for "affordable" then, stay in the twin cities. This is the equivalent of asking if you can find a affordable house on Lake of the Isles... Bellevue and Kirkland are the heart of the posh east side Seattle suburbs. Look to pay anywhere from 700K up to be close to a golf course. Microsoft & it's millionaires have driven up prices in the area. You might find affordable and golf course way out in the far northwest suburbs (Monroe, Snohomish) or the southwest suburbs (Black Diamond, Covington) - Then you are stuck with multi hour commutes each way to Seattle. I have looked and there is no way to specify on the local real estate websites 'golf course' so, if you want to pursue it, contact a Realtor at one of the… [cont.]
