  • I could say analogously that tolerance is the affable appreciation of qualities, views, and actions of other individuals which are foreign to one`s own habits, beliefs, and tastes. Thus being tolerant does not mean being indifferent towards the actions and feelings of others. Understanding and empathy must also be present....

  • The doctrine of toleration requires a positive as well as a negative statement. It is not only wrong to burn a man on account of his creed, but it is right to encourage the open avowal and defence of every opinion sincerely maintained. Every man who says frankly and fully what he thinks is so far doing a public service. We should be grateful to him for attacking most unsparingly our most cherished opinions.
  • Unlimited tolerance must lead to the disappearance of tolerance. If we extend unlimited tolerance even to those who are intolerant, if we are not prepared to defend a tolerant society against the onslaught of the intolerant, then the tolerant will be destroyed, and tolerance with them. [...] We should therefore claim, in the name of tolerance, the right not to tolerate the intolerant.

What is the tolerance on a railway wheel?
Q. In the old days, railway lines were built with a gap because in the hot weather the rail expanded. That was why the train went 'clickety-clack ' etc. Nowadays the line is whole, but on my journeys I still hear little 'clacks', which makes me wonder, to what tolerance is the wheel made to? I guess 1mm would be too much so is it tenth of a mil or smaller?

A. actually that clack you hear now is is just the wear on the tire like when a train hits its brakes the wheels wear lock up and cause wear on one part of the wheel so every time it hits that one point it makes the noise if that answers your question

How much does eating beforehand change the results of a glucose tolerance test?
Q. My brother recently had an oral glucose tolerance test but he ate some leftover dinner before the test even though he was told to fast. The dinner consisted of some rice and meat. Will this affect the test results?
Asked by Jade - Mon Jan 25 03:50:43 2010 - Diabetes - 4 Answers - Comments

A. Sugar in your blood does not appear from nowhere, it comes from what you eat. If you have sugar in your blood when you've fasted, then it is because your body does not utilize it correctly. Now, because your brother has eaten when he should have fasted, it looks like his body does not use the sugars correctly. The whole test MUST be repeated. (unless there were at least 3 hours between the eating and the test) If your brother is unable to fast correctly, he should then ask to get the Glycosylated hemoglobin test. (Hb A1c or HA1c) This test shows your blood glucose level history of the previous eight to twelve weeks. It measures your average blood glucose levels over the past two to three months.
