Yes, there are a lot of programming jobs that involve math, however, there are many that use no math whatsoever. The fact is, unless you are writing a program that involves data manipulation, there are many areas that do require a fair degree of logic, but not high-level math. I have been an IT Recruiter for many years and the majority of positions I fill do not require any specific math skills. If you want a computer science degree, you will likely have to take at least advanced algebra, but not necessarily calculus and definitely not differential equations in an undergrad program. I'm learning how to program in visual basic, I want to start my brother off on a programming language but I am not sure which one he should use, in my opinion python would be a start, but he is only 10, an intelligent 10 year old. Python is great, but it's not widely used for serious application development like C++, C# or Java. If your brother is only 10, and if he exhibits no interest in programming, then don't get him started on programming. I didn't get into programming until I was 16, and there's no real advantage by learning how to program earlier on in life. I know of people who didn't pick up programming until they were in their early 30s and are professional software engineers now. You should check out Small Basic from Microsoft if your brother is interested in picking up programming at that young of an age. For you, I suggest C++.
