Physics

Physics is one of the oldest academic disciplines, perhaps the oldest through its inclusion of astronomy. Over the last two millennia, physics was a part of natural philosophy along with chemistry, certain branches of mathematics, and biology, but during the Scientific Revolution in the 16th century, the natural sciences emerged as unique research programs in their own right. Physics intersects with many interdisciplinary areas of research, such as biophysics and quantum chemistry, and the boundaries of physics are not rigidly defined. New ideas in physics often explain the fundamental mechanisms of other sciences, while opening new avenues of research in areas such as mathematics and philosophy. Physics also makes significant contributions through advances in new technologies that arise from theoretical breakthroughs. For example, advances in the understanding of electromagnetism or nuclear physics led directly to the development of new products which have dramatically transformed modern-day society, such as television, computers, domestic appliances, and nuclear weapons; advances in thermodynamics led to the development of industrialization; and advances in mechanics inspired the development of calculus. From Google Video Search: "physics" What type of physics do computer engineers use on the job ? Q. Hi, I'm currently a 2nd year computer engineering student and am planning on becoming a hardware design engineer. I'm finishing up with general physics 2 with calculus, and was wondering what topics in general physics that we learn in college are actually use on the job. Asked by - Mon Dec 7 16:18:29 2009 - Engineering - 1 Answers - Comments A. Electronic, thermal, electrical, communications (wire, RF, optical), human interface, display (optical), work use general physics. The design, manufacturing, and operations fields use all of the above, with emphasis on some parts to varying degrees. Answered by Starrysky - Mon Dec 7 16:29:41 2009 How important is Physics in regards to getting into a business University?
Q. Is Physics needed for business universities? How important is Physics in regards to getting into a business University? I'm talking about Canadian business school Universities, by the way. For example, if I didn't take calculus/data management/advanced functions, then I know for a fact that any business school would NOT let me in. But what about physics? If I didn't take physics, does it matter? Or is it an instant rejection from business schools? Asked by Fratal F - Wed Jul 14 21:05:18 2010 - Higher Education (University +) - 1 Answers - Comments A. Calculus and statistics is very important for business, but I can't imagine physics being required for the school. On the other hand, if you know some physics or engineering and you're a business major, then you'll be a lot more employable in the technology area after you graduate. Most business majors don't know crap about how science really works, which makes them extremely poor decision makers in that area.
