I have heard that when you see statistics for instance that 9.5% of Americans are unemployed that actually the number is much higher than that. That the 9.5% spoke of only represents people who have been laid off from a job for no fault of their own and are actually drawing government funded unemployment compensation. The people who have lost their jobs and for one reason or another do not qualify for unemployment or maybe their unemployment has ran out, they are not added into the national unemployment average. It's true, there are a hell of a lot more unemployed than the government can count because of the reasons you've cited; and other reasons as well. I think if we knew the true numbers we would claim a depression and that would send the markets into a tailspin, the government would quickly follow.
