From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Fuel is any material that is burned or altered to obtain energy and to heat or to move an object. Fuel releases its energy either through a chemical reaction means, such as combustion, or nuclear means, such as nuclear fission or nuclear fusion. An important property of a useful fuel is that its energy can be stored to be released only when needed, and that the release is controlled in such a way that the energy can be harnessed to produce work. Examples: Methane, Petrol and Oil. All carbon-based life forms—from microorganisms to animals and humans—depend on and use fuels as their source of energy. Their cells engage in an enzyme-mediated chemical process called metabolism that converts energy from food or light into a form that can be used to sustain life. Additionally, humans employ a variety of techniques to convert one form of energy into another, producing usable energy for purposes that go far beyond the energy needs of a human body. The application of energy released from fuels ranges from heat to cooking and from powering weapons to combustion and generation of electricity. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License What are the positives and negatives of using fosil fuels on our cars? Q. I have been hearing allot about how great switching to fosil fuels fo our vehicles would be. But why? Surly there is a down side to this, is'nt there? Asked by PragerGirl - Fri Dec 7 11:22:22 2007 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments A. Fossil fuels, such as gasoline, result in carbon dioxide emissions that contribute to global warming. The less gasoline we use, the less global warming. Alternative fuel vehicles are currently be offerred that reduces or eliminates the need for gas. These include hybrids (like the Toyota Prius) and electric cars. Answered by kusheng - Fri Dec 7 11:38:11 2007 What is one advantage and disadvantage for using liquid fuels to produce electricity? Q. Also what is one advantage and disadvantage for using liquid fuels for home heating? And for transportation? Asked by olya120 - Wed Feb 11 21:53:26 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. Advantages: Liquid fuels are relatively easy to handle, transport and store. Disadvantages: Liquid fuels are usually an expensive alternative for electricity generation and tend to cause more problems (erosion etc.) when used in gas turbines than do gaseous fuels. Liquid fuels can spill and cause serious contamination. Gaseous and solid fuels are better in this respect. Q. What's the disadvantage to use both fossil fuels and biomass as an energy resource? Asked by Weronika B - Mon Oct 13 14:15:06 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. The major change that happened in the earth's atmosphere from the times when the climate was MUCH hotter, was the absorption of CO2 from the atmosphere into plants that then got buried in geological layers. That is, more and more CO2 got trapped into fossil fuel and stayed out of the atmosphere. This changed the climate dramatically, and we adapted to that changed climate. By burning this fuel, we are again releasing this gas into the atmosphere, and dramatically changing the climate to what it was billions of years ago. This 'other climate' is not necessarily a terrible climate, except that we, as humans - and everything else that now inhabits the planet, have adapted over millions of years to the climate as it IS, so we might not… [cont.] Answered by Midatlantian - Mon Oct 13 14:44:14 2008 From Yahoo Answer Search: "fuels" Rentech fuel supported military demo
