A digital system is a data technology that uses discrete (discontinuous) values. By contrast, analog (non-digital) systems use a continuous range of values to represent information. Although digital representations are discrete, they can be used to carry either discrete information, such as numbers, letters or other individual symbols, or approximations of continuous information, such as sounds, images, and other measurements of continuous systems. The word digital comes from the same source as the word digit and digitus (the Latin word for finger), as fingers are used for discrete counting. It is most commonly used in computing and electronics, especially where real-world information is converted to a digital format as in digital audio and digital photography. It is estimated that in the year 2007, 94% of the world's technologically stored information was digital (up from a mere 3% in 1993). The year 2002 is assumed to be the year when human kind was able to store more information in digital, than in analog format (the "beginning of the digital age"). From Wikipedia under the

Q. I have a brand new digital TV with freeview and a fairly new VCR /DVD recorder, but non-digital. I need to find a solution to record a freeview channel without having to buy a new video recorder. Can you help me ? Asked by celine G - Sun Apr 6 19:12:09 2008 - TiVO & DVRs - 5 Answers - Comments A. you need a freeview set top box and connect it to your VCR. or buy a PVR (a freeview box with a built in hard drive recorder. unless your TV has the capability to output the signal to a scart line you have no other option. if your tv outputs via scart connect the scart lead to the scart out of the TV and then a free scart socket on your video recorder, now to record you will need to select the AV on the video recorder (for the socket you are using) and record when you are ready. likewise with a freeview set top box, connect the scart lead on the freeview box to the back of the VCR and as above select the appropriate AV port and record from that. you will have to set the freeview box to the channel manually even though you can set your VCR… [cont.] Answered by thebestnamesarealreadytaken0909 - Sun Apr 6 19:35:34 2008 From Yahoo Answer Search: "digital" |
