Why is cnet downloads free? Are the malware and virus programs on there the same as free one's from the origin?
Q. they have avira on cnet for free...is the same free one from the avira website? what happens to the free program when it expires? do they have a new one every year?
Asked by - Sat Apr 30 21:52:25 2011 - Security - 2 Answers - Comments
A. What's on Cnet is the same as what you get from the developer's website (sometimes it may not be the latest version). The Avira on Cnet is the same as the Avira from Avira. Avira is free, it doesn't expire...they may ask you to register but you don't have to pay anything. Cnet is just a place where companies post there products. Cnet makes money off of advertising and product placement.

Is download cnet really tested virus free? Will antivirus catch keyloggers?
Q. 1. Is there a way to examine the program as you download it for a virus or keylogger? 2. Can you only check for keyloggers after you install software? 3. Do people only lose money from their bank accounts from email attachments or can be a game download?
Asked by - Wed Oct 6 17:00:26 2010 - Security - 4 Answers - Comments
A. cnet is free of viruses and if you have your anti virus software running wile you download a file it will automatically check the file for viruses. as for the email attachments you will not lose money from your bank account they can have viruses attached but that is highly unlikely, if it does have a virus then when you are opening the attachment the anti virus software will block the virus from entering your computer

Does the CNet CWD-854 Wireless-G USB Dongle work with the Xbox 360 ?
Q. Do you have to do any special configuring on the computer or anything before it works ?
Asked by forcegoalie19 - Mon Aug 17 15:32:40 2009 - Xbox - 1 Answers - Comments
A. No way. . no usb wireless adapters work with it besides the one from Microsoft. Microsoft is way too greedy and actually pretty smart to not let them be allowed. There are other solutions out there that might be alittle cheaper than buying the 360 wireless adapter tho. Check out the site.

Q. Here's what it does: When playing a game online it basically stops all other programs on your computer from running, giving you a better connection on the game you are playing. When you exit the game all the programs that were turned off will automatically come back on. I've spent about 45 minutes on CNet trying to find it. Thanks WUW, that's what I was looking for. I game you a thumbs up and Best Answer is coming. Thanks again.

Is there a virus attached to winrar on cnet?
Q. I downloaded winrar couple days ago but i didn't notice the warnings in the reviews >.< i dont see any popups and i've run avast and malwarebytes but nothing suspicious came up. The warning review i saw was from late last year, so should i be on the lookout?

A. Some viruses you find online will be archived, this makes it harder for the site to detect it. Always have caution when opening unknown archives.
