What would the start-up costs be for a manufacturing business?
Q. What would the start-up costs (equipment, rent, wages, materials, etc.) for a manufacturing company that manufactures solar panels be? I am writing my own business plan for a class and I cannot find any information regarding the start-up costs of the business I would like to "create." Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

A. I haven't a clue, but I bet if you were to call one of the industry leaders, such as Evergreen Solar, SunPower or Energy Conversion Devices, they would be able and willing to help. Just explain what you're doing. I'm sure they'll appreciate your interest. If you want to try a ballsy move, look up the name of the chief financial officer of each company, then call the switchboards and ask for them. You almost certainly won't get to speak to them, but you'll probably get someone else who can help.

How can I start building up good credit while taking care of my debt?
Q. I have several bills that I honestly didn't even know existed until they went to collections. I'm going to start dealing with those, but while I do, is there any way to start building up good credit to balance it out? Thanks!

A. When a debt goes on collection, the collector is required by law to give you 30 days to dispute the debt if it is not yours. During this time they cannot report the account to the credit bureaus. You can buy time this way, by writing and asking the collector to verify the account or cease all collection efforts as well as reporting. If the 30 days have already elapsed, negotiating may be the best cause. But don't make the mistake of acknowledging the debt as this can be used against you. Refer to the account by its number. Never say "my account", "my debt", "my overdue account" or any similar/phrases. What you do is ask for deletion upon payment. Make sure that everything is put down in writing as collectors are known for not keeping… [cont.]

Q. Hi, I am running Widows Vista and I use the Windows Calendar quite frequently. However, when I set a reminder on the Calendar it will only appear when I start the program up. So my question is can I modify start up by adding the Windows Calendar program, so that it will start up automatically when I boot up my Laptop?

A. It's pretty easy, just place a short cut to it in your startup group. Go to Start | All Programs and right click startup. Open it up. Drag and Drop (or create) a link to Calendar into that folder. Next time you log on it will be there.
