Why are buses not required to have seat belts for their passengers?
Q. Most states have seat belt laws, but I noticed that people in buses do not have to wear seat belts. Are they not in the same danger as people riding in their personal vehicles?

A. they don't have them on school buses either... i guess if you get in an accident just go limph. =) public and school buses go much slower than other vehicles, and if passengers had seat restraints on then it would slow the flow of passengers to and fro the bus. This is why that driver screamed at me when I stood up in the isle on the bus. (Plus I was naked and I had a gun)

A. Two inches - that way if you crash you have less distance to travel and the bump won't be as bad.

Why do US-American school buses look so different from regular buses?
Q. All over Europe, school buses are usually tour buses or regional buses, sometimes older types, dedicated for the job or doing regular runs in the afternoon, sometimes open for both school children and regular travellers. They seem to do the job quite well; however in the USA, school buses appear to be rather specialized, sometimes built on a truck chassis, always yellow in colour and frequently appearing quite old fashioned. Why is that so, what is special about those school buses that regular buses cannot do the job?

A. 1 regular bus's are too nice,,,dont hold enough kids cost too much 2 yellow so u see it 3 seats on school bus easy/cheap to replace so the little rats can rip them up without school going broke

Why do school buses and transportation vehicles have to stop at a train track?
Q. I dont understand why school buses and transportation vehicles have to stop at train tracks when there is no flashing lights or the gate isnt lowered. How many times has a train ever passed through a railroad crossing without indicating that it is going to do so? I just dont really understand why they do that. I have to say this now that i have read your posts and that is if SAFETY is a priority among transportation vehicles and school buses then why doesnt everyone stop and listen for trains? Shouldnt we all be doing that?
Asked by Balrog - Wed Mar 26 22:04:00 2008 - Rail - 8 Answers - Comments
A. I will agree that on the surface it may seem silly, but the law is there for a very very good reason. safety the crossing gates and protective devices are not foolproof, they are mechanical devices and can and do fail. The only sure way to be absolutely postiively safe is to look, both ways every time. Dont ever allow a mechanical device to tell you the coast is clear. do it yourself. That is exactly what buses are required to do because crossing protection is NOT reliable enough. P.S. love the avatar btw, Tolkein rules!!

Q. i need to get a bus around 5am from patras to athens next monday morning. what time do the buses start? are they usually on time? how long do they take?

A. Since KTEL took down their site and replaced free schedules with a pay service, you can look here under "Terminal A (Kiffisos)," click the link and see that the last bus from Patras to Athens departs at 2:30 and then starts again at 5:00, departing almost every hour (or less). So that fits your schedule. Takes 3 hours. Kalo taxidi!

How can you visually tell the difference between different computer buses?
Q. How can I tell the difference between several buses (ISA, EISA, MCA, PCI, VESA)? Each bus comes in different widths (16, 32 and 64 bits). How can I look at a bus on a mother board and know what kind it is?
Asked by red headed step child - Thu Oct 12 00:44:38 2006 - Other - Hardware - 1 Answers - Comments
A. Usually the ISA is brown where as the PCI is white and AGP is purple. You can visually tell by the number of slots as well. The older ISA was always in great supply, but now it is outnumbered by the PCI. The ISA is most commonly found on the motherboards by a brown slot on the bottom of the board if you were to hold with the slots facing the back of the case. The PCI is usually shorter and in numerous quantities. The AGP will look sort of like a hybrid of the ISA and PCI, but it will have two slots. One in front, then a split and then a small one on the other side of it. The below web page has a good description and pics as well.

Why do school buses start their engines and let them run?
Q. We live across the street from a high school and where they park the buses. Why do they start the bus early in the morning( sometimes before 5AM) and let them idle there for at least 1 1/2 hour before they pick up the students?
Asked by Radcliffer - Wed Oct 15 13:03:42 2008 - Other - Cars & Transportation - 1 Answers - 1 Comments
A. it allows the air brake reservoir to charge up to supply air to the brakes for the bus runs, and makes sure the buses are running normally (make sure no overheating) because the last thing you want is a stranded bus, very expensive to tow
