A book is a set or collection of written, printed, illustrated, or blank sheets, made of paper, parchment, or other various material, usually fastened together to hinge at one side. A single sheet within a book is called a leaf, and each side of a leaf is called a page. A book produced in electronic format is known as an electronic book (e-book).

Books may also refer to works of literature, or a main division of such a work. In library and information science, a book is called a monograph, to distinguish it from serial periodicals such as magazines, journals or newspapers. The body of all written works including books is literature. In novels and sometimes other types of books (e.g. biographies), a book may be divided into several large sections, also called books (Book 1, Book 2, Book 3, etc.). A lover of books is usually referred to as a bibliophile, a bibliophilist, or a philobiblist, or, more informally, a bookworm.

A store where books are bought and sold is a bookstore or bookshop. Books can also be borrowed from libraries.

In 2010 Google estimated that there are 130 million unique books in the world.

When does the book "Dandelion Wine" by Ray Bradbury start to pick up the tempo and get interesting?
Q. I have to read this book for summer work and do a project on it... I tried reading the first couple chapters but it is so boring!!! So i am going to read chapter summaries for the beginning of the book and start reading where it get interesting. So can anyone tell me what chapter the book starts getting good in?

A. Been a while since I read that particular book, but I remember really enjoying the chapter with Lavinia Nebbs and the murderer, The Lonely One. Very suspenseful. Also, I really recommend that you really work to appreciate the quality of the writing as you read. Bradbury wrote some really amazing sentences in that book. I still remember ..."she was cool as mint ice cream..." what a great simile!

What book about Wildlife will inspire me and provide me with an insight into the subject?
Q. I have recently become a wildlife major at Humboldt State University, and I am taking the first required class of that major: Introduction to Wildlife Conservation & Administration. So far, the class has been little more than a jumbled series of dates and their corresponding policies. This stuff, while perhaps important, is disappointingly uninspiring as a first experience of this subject to which I intend to dedicate much of my life. I am hoping that people can recommend to me books that I could supplement my education with that will provide me with further appreciation and insight into the subject. I am particularly interested in learning the background of human's relationship with wildlife, dating further back into history (way… [cont.]

How is Google Books getting the proprietary rights to publish nearly every book online?
Q. Does anybody know? It seems to defeat the purpose of buying books if you can access nearly any book anytime. I think they even offer downloadable PDF versions that you can save and keep forever! I can't say that's not good...I just don't get how they have the right to do that.
