I was baptized as a baby into a religion I no longer follow (ironically, neither does anyone else in my family), but it doesn't bother me that it was done. It was a good idea, because it allowed me to practice my family's (then) religion and gain an understanding of it. Then I was more prepared later in life to choose what my own belief system would be, because I was given one from early on. Sure, it is ultimately your child's decision, but most religions baptize infants or very young children, not people old enough to choose their own belief system. So your child is still free to practice another religion when he/she is old enough, but that is no reason not to baptize a child now. Q. we are married for more than 17 yrs. our 16 yrs old son has the baptism, first communion and confirmation. why the father refused to baptize his litle brother. Actually, Father asked that you have your marriage validated. Not the same thing as "getting married." The Church knows you are legally married -- they just want you to be sacramentally married as well. Your older son was probably baptized, etc., because you lied about only being civilly married and not having your marriage recognized as sacramentally valid by the Church. Either that or it was a lazy priest. The priest you have now is following the rules correctly.
