Is there an effective way to easily compare printing services in terms of cost and quality?
Q. There are seemingly thousands of different printing services out there, but it seems very difficult to compare among them. I find myself visiting many different companies and spending a great deal of time trying to compare them. There are price comparison search engines for products, but I don't know of any for printing services. Do they exist? Even just a general printing service price tracker? There is also the question of quality - do any sites review and compare the quality of services? Even if there are no quality review sites, simply a good price comparison tool would be helpful. Most printers can make arrangements to provide samples, allowing the quality question to be answered.

A. just focus on the 3: grade of paper, resolution(dpi's), cost/M then delivery... (how fast they can comply) but you can try asking for quotes...samples will help with a proper quote from how exactly you want the outcome to be... from there you can compare... just narrow down to at least 2 companies... or you can try this...

Why can't one specify what one wants to buy on e-bay and then sellers bid to provide the same? Defies econmcs?
Q. What could be the reason that a user cannot specify what he wants to buy (the exact product) and then sellers bid to provide the same on online websites like e-bay? Technologically, this is hardly any problem to implement; my question though is not about the technology limitations/complexities. Basically, why is online shopping a seller driven market i.e. a seller says he has something to sell and then users bid for it? Are there any evident issues with it being a buyer's market i.e. a user specifying that he wants to buy a product and then sellers bid to provide that product at the least possible price? Does a buyer's market defy some basic economic principles? In what kind of environment can a buyer's market exist? FYI: In countries… [cont.]

A. I believe that it depends on differences in the way both display the items, issues of trust and fear of manipulation.

Is there a high speed internet service provider comparison site...?
Q. where you can actually compare the real prices of ISPs, and not their promotional offers, so you can find out what the actuall prices are going to be. I am tired of searching and searching the net only to come across all the affiliate " ISP comparison sites", that are just loaded with a bunch of banners, that describe the ISPs promotional offers. It is really annoying, there are too many affiliates that are out to make money and want you to click on there banners and sign up so they make money, but there is no real informative sites that will actually give you the facts in a comparison chart of their internet speeds, and real prices.

How good is satellite service?
Q. How does it do in bad weather (snow, rain, windy or cloudy conditions) and which company would you reccommend... I was going for Dish Network because it was cheaper than Directv ( on comparison of Dish Network's America's Top 120 w/120 channels and DirecTV's Total Choice Package w/155 channels). But I don't mind the prices because they are both cheaper than what I'm paying for Time Warner Cable right now which is $54.00 without tax

A. I love mine and get great reception in bad weather. The only exception is if snow actually builds up on the dish (which is rare, even here in Colorado) so have it installed somewhere you can get to it with a broom.

A. That's called, wet noodle marketing. They get 1000 people to call them for quotes, and a few WILL be lower, but most won't. That's because there's no one insurance company that has the lowest rates for EVERYONE. There's no shortcut. You have to shop around, to find the cheapest rate for you. And those online places, well, they harvest your personal information to sell it for leads.

How do you comparsion shop for routine health care services?
Q. I have a high-deductible health plan and would like to make the most out of my health care dollars by comparison shopping for prices. What tools do other consumers use to look up prices and find the best value. My health plan does not provide very good price transparency tools so I need to rely on other sources.

A. We desperately NEED price transparency and the system is rigged against it. What I recommend is get a really good PCP and start with his recommendations. Also see if you pay him cash at the time of service if he'll give you a discount--quite a few docs take 30-50% off for that as insurance is low and slow pay usually and the paperwork costs are enormous. Consider looking for things like lab work via grocery stores, drug stores, and Walmart. Kid you not. In Arizona, we have two chains of groceries that do that--Bashas and Fry's. They both have independent labs that come through about once a month and will do testing for greatly reduced costs versus what you normally pay via the doc sending you to some place or drawing your blood and… [cont.]

A. HINT: Stay out of car dealerships, but you now know this based on your experience. I'm not quite sure where you are in the process, but I see you need to get your car back in your possession and the truck back in their possession. I am not sure if you've signed finance contracts or not. If you have, it creates another issue. That is, you bought a truck. Second HINT: You're Daddy needs to stay out of your business. If you and your husband can pop out children, you need to manage your own affairs. I'd be embarrassed beyond belief to have to have Daddy sign anything. Third: contact the General Manager in the morning, get this straightened out. I don't see a good ending.

A. Actually, you don't need a cable modem with more than 1 port to split your network up. I use a Linksys "5-Port Switch" ($40) connected to the output of my Cable Modem. All you need is an allocation of two IP addresses from Time Warner. Most ISP's that provide HighSpeed Internet also allow you two Dynamic IP Addresses. (You are using Dynamic IP assignment from ISP rather than Fixed IP?) In my case, I had to contact customer support and ask them to "activate" the 2nd dynamic IP (even though they say it is free, I still had to request it to be activated because most people don't know how to use two IP's). Modem connects to Port 4 or 5 (Uplink port) of the Linksys Switch. From the Linksys Switch: - I have a Linksys WRT-54G NAT-Router… [cont.]

Is it worth paying extra ?
Q. Hunting around for car insurance, and could just go with the cheapest on a money comparison list - but is that the best option ? For a bit (to a lot!) more some insurers include benefits such as courtesy car & free legal service etc. But is it worth paying the extra for something I might not use ? I notice Direct Line are refusing to be part of these lists because they say they are not accurate comparisons as cheapest price is not necessarily the best deal. Now I know why it's called confused.com! Can anyone help me ?

A. I wouldn't pay for the legal service, it's highly unlikely that you would ever need it and if you did all you need to to is visit your local CAB for advice. I think the courtesy car is a good idea, I have this on my direct line policy as I would be lost without a car - I live in a village with no bus service - so I think the extra I pay is worth it and it's not much anyway, about 20 a year from what I remember

When it comes to car rental, would you reserve online or rent upon arrival on airport?
Q. When it comes to car rental, would you reserve online or rent upon arrival on airport? Websites are everywhere including third party sites that render price comparison of car rentals between different rent-a-car companies, but behind all these are risks involved with online reservations. If price is no object (for a compact size car ONLY) would you risk making a reservation online (which also means advanced reservation since you're making the reservation before you arrive on the airport) or just make the rental as soon as you arrive (literally, walk-in face to face customer service). Those "car-rental-companies-suc k" sites are everywhere and most of the time become a problem when online reservations are done. Thanks for answering… [cont.]

A. How desperately will you need the car on arrival? Will you be able to get a ride or use public transport if necessary? The goal of the car rental agencies is to have every car rented, every day. Now that doesn't happen every day, but it does happen sometimes. So waiting to walk up to the counter means taking the risk that there won't be any cars at all, or none of the cheap small cars that you seem to be looking for. My family travels all the time. If we know we need a car, then we reserve the car in advance.
