A Different Kind of Tension is the third studio album by English punk rock band Buzzcocks. It was released in September 1979. It charted at No. 42 in the United Kingdom[1] and No. 163 in the United States.[2]

The sleeve features a photograph of the band taken on Westminster Bridge amongst a montage of triangles. This continued the artistic theme established by Malcolm Garrett on the covers of Another Music in a Different Kitchen (squares) and Love Bites (circles).

Treble called the album "their most advanced and forward thinking album to date, a fitting conclusion to their fantastic first trio of albums."[8] In their review of the reissues of the band's first three albums, Rolling Stone called A Different Kind of Tension "the best of these three".[7]
