Its name in English (pronounced /ˈɑr/) is spelled ar, plural ars; its name in Hiberno-English is or /ˈɔr/. In handwriting it was common not to close the bottom of the loop but continue into the leg, saving an extra pen stroke. The loop-leg stroke shortened into the simple arc used today. I can vibrate my uvula and I can sort of say words when the r is at the end of the word e.g. fleur, pour, etc. However, I can't pronouce words that start with the r, e.g. rentree, rognon etc. I tried shaping my mouth like I would do in English when obviously it didn't come out right. Your tongue has to be at the bottom of your mouth, curving upwards a little. No space between your tongue and your lower palate. Then vibrate the top back of your throat (below your uvula). Your uvula is not supposed to vibrate, the sound comes from lower down in your throat. don't drop it too far down, that's a German R I think it's more like a "w" than a "y" or "g". Put your mouth in a "w" position, then open your mouth a little wider, and virate the back of your throat. Good luck!
